Meme coin fever is back! As Bitcoin rebounds and approaches $100.000, we also see Ethereum regaining its rhythm with double-digit percentage gains. Solana benefits and reaches its highest price in two months. It seems as if the digital animal world is flourishing again.
In this tumultuous week, it’s mainly Solana-based tokens that are stealing the show. Moo Deng (MOODENG) and Peanut the Squirrel (PNUT) are leading the charge, with respective increases of a whopping 143% and 55% in 24 hours, accounting for over $900 million in trading volume, as reported by CoinGecko. Not bad for tokens that are riding a price rollercoaster, with previous market caps of $680 million and $2.4 billion still some 80% below their historic highs.
In addition to these two fiery leaders, there are other notable meme coins riding the wave of optimism. Over the same period, Fwog (FWOG) and Unicorn Fart Dust (UFD) have gained 37% and 45% respectively. The name Goatseus Maximus (GOAT), which has become popular due to its connection to the autonomous agent behind Fartcoin (FARTCOIN), has gained almost 48% in value and now has a market cap of $125 million, up from over $1 billion in November.
TikTok-inspired meme coins are also back in vogue, with Chill Guy (CHILLGUY) up 33.6% and the Ethereum-based NEIRO up 23%. Surprisingly, even older tokens like ConstitutionDAO’s PEOPLE token are seeing a comeback, after being unable to purchase a copy of the US Constitution in 2021.
All of this comes against the backdrop of a recent discussion about the future of Solana meme coins. Alon Cohen, co-founder of Pump.fun, was optimistic, noting that these coins are “here to stay.” Back in March, he noted that meme coin activity had picked up once the larger crypto markets stabilized.
This rally shows a familiar pattern: Bitcoin, Ethereum and Solana rise, with ETH and SOL have risen nearly 27% and 15% respectively in the past week. It seems that digital currencies are gaining popularity again, just like in the good old days of meme coins.
