World Liberty Financial, the crypto company affiliated with Donald Trump and his family, refuse to be discouraged by the critical questions of Senator Richard Blumenthal. The senator, who heads a committee that investigates corruption and mismanagement, has expressed doubts about the company.
In a letter sent to the senator by WLFI’s lawyers, they stressed that the company “does not operate in the shadows.” WLFI, they said, is building a new, accountable financial infrastructure anchored in American trust, the rule of law and economic leadership.
Blumenthal specifically directed his questions at co-founder Zach Witkoff, who will soon appear at Consensus 2025 in Toronto along with his other co-founder Zak Folkman and Eric Trump. He was interested in learning more about the ownership structure of Trump-related entities, including WLFI and Fight, Fight, Fight LLC, the company behind the TRUMP memecoin. Since Blumenthal is not in the majority, his investigation does not carry the same power as that of the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, which falls under the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs.
In their response, WLFI states that Blumenthal’s request “contains inaccuracies and fundamentally flawed inferences that we will not unpack further.” The attorneys specifically point out that WLFI has no affiliation with Fight, Fight, Fight LLC.
The company rejects the “false choice between innovation and regulation.” “What we decry is the abuse of regulatory authority and uncertainty to stifle legitimate innovation,” the letter reads.
Eric Trump, the president's son, who is listed on the WLFI website as a Web3 ambassador alongside his father, the “chief crypto advocate”, also participated in Consensus 2025. He shared his experiences on how he got into the crypto world and why he decided to start a mining company that wants to go public through a merger.
“We’ve come to appreciate the crypto community, and I think the crypto community has come to appreciate us,” he told a packed room in Toronto. “We’re so proud to be a big part of this.”
The Trump family’s connections to crypto have also been raised by Democratic senators who oppose digital asset legislation currently moving through Congress. Still, a crucial vote on stablecoin legislation is expected to take place next week.
