Basketball has received a strong boost since Worthy de Jong scored a sensational last-minute two-pointer during the Olympic final, which gave him the gold achieved for the Netherlands. Rabobank has now announced that they will support this sport and will collaborate with the Dutch Basketball Association, Team Amsterdam and the FIBA 3×3 World Tour Amsterdam.
Rabobank is now the official sponsor of Team Amsterdam – the current 3X3 World Tour champions, featuring players such as Worthy de Jong and Jan Driessen. This duo was also part of the Orange Lions that won Olympic gold in Paris. The Rabobank name will now be visible on Team Amsterdam’s kits. In addition, the sofa also act as shirt sponsor for the Orange Lions 3X3, for both the men's and women's teams.
In addition to Team Amsterdam and the Orange Lions 3X3, Rabobank is also involved with the Dutch Basketball Association (NBB) and acts as a sponsor of the FIBA 3×3 World Tour in Amsterdam.
These initiatives are part of a broader collaboration between Rabobank, NOC*NSF and TeamNL, in which the bank is committed to a more sporty Dutch society. Worthy de Jong will be the ambassador of Rabobank on behalf of basketball in this whole.
“Basketball has made me who I am,” says De Jong. “It has given me opportunities, discipline and a dream to pursue. With this partnership, I hope to inspire young people to find their own path in sports. And it is great that I am not only one of the faces of this collaboration, but also get to think creatively about how we can bring sports and youth even closer together.”
The choice for basketball fits within a broader strategy of Rabobank, which focuses on sports, culture and festivals, with a special emphasis on younger target groups, talent development and strengthening communities.
“For us, sports sponsorship goes beyond just logo visibility,” says Erik Versnel, Cooperative Director at Rabobank Amsterdam. “We believe in the power of top-level sports and recreational sports and in the role that sports play in uniting people and developing their talents.”
“Basketball fits in perfectly with this: it lives, it connects and it grows. Together with partners such as NOC*NSF, TeamNL and the sports associations, we want to contribute to the goal of making the Netherlands the most sporting country in the world by 2032,” Versnel adds.
