Opensea Cto Reveals His Expectations For The Upcoming Os 2 Release

Reading time: 2 minutes

In the new version of OpenSea, known as OpenSea 2.0, which went live on the public testnet on February 13, 2025, the once-largest NFT marketplace transforms into a versatile platform that combines the best of both Web2 and Web3 combines. CTO Nadav Hollander emphasizes that the new version will also support operations with tradable crypto assets.

A broader perspective than just NFTs

OpenSea, the leading marketplace for digital collectibles, aims to be “the best product in the world” crypto “To become, period.” In his introduction to the new product at X, Hollander emphasizes that OpenSea 2.0 will not be seen as just an “NFT marketplace.”

In this revamped version, the once-dominant NFT marketplace can now manage both fungible and non-fungible assets. OpenSea aims to set the standard for account abstraction experiences across blockchain networks.

This renewed product is not only inspired by the prominent Web3 products, but also by legendary Web2 apps like Vercel and Linear. Ideologically, it is a complete restructuring of the technical design and architecture of OpenSea: the product is built from the ground up.

A new look at the platform with an airdrop in sight

As previously reported by U.Today, the second version of OpenSea was launched into public beta on February 13, 2025, and is now active on 14 blockchains. The new release includes a revised fee model, rich features, and reduced commissions. The OpenSea Foundation also plans to issue the SEA token and airdrop it to the community.

While an exact timeline for the airdrop or requirements for participation are not yet available, it is emphasized that accounts with a long history of use on the marketplace will be prioritized. US customers will also be allowed to participate in the airdrop, with the process being simplified and streamlined, the foundation said.
