The end of the year is approaching and many Dutch people feel the urge to make one of their dreams come true. According to recent research by Mastercard 41% of Dutch people are determined to complete at least one bucket list experience by the end of 2025. The younger generation, Gen Z, is feeling the pressure, with 59% hoping to cross something off their bucket list this year.
The timing is favorable. The survey, conducted among 1.000 Dutch people, shows that almost half (47%) still have a significant number of vacation days left, ranging from 7 to more than 20 days. This offers an ideal opportunity to make those dreams come true.
There's a strong desire for unforgettable moments. Topping the bucket list is traveling to a new dream destination (36%). Other popular wishes include visiting an iconic location (12%), attending a dream live show (8%), and visiting a Christmas market (6%).
Although many Dutch people make plans at the beginning of the year, executing them can sometimes be challenging. The most frequently cited obstacles are the need to save longer (16%) and waiting for "the perfect moment" (14%). Nevertheless, the focus on experiences remains strong: 81% believe spending money on experiences is "always or usually worth it."
“Throughout the year we have seen a shift from material things to unforgettable experiences,” said Jan-Willem van der Schoot, Country Manager Mastercard The Netherlands“By listening to Dutch consumers and entering into partnerships that interest them, we make their Priceless experiences possible.”
