The maximum rates that couches and financial institutions can ask for consumer credit or for an overdraft on a current account, will be reduced from 1 June 2025. Depending on the chosen formula and the amount, there will be a reduction of between 0,50 and 1,50 percent, reports Spaargids.be.

For new installment loans, the maximum permitted rate will drop to 20,50 percent for amounts up to 1.250 euroFor amounts between 1.250 and 5.000 euros this will drop to 15,50 percent and for amounts above 5.000 euros the maximum permitted rate will be 13 percent.
The maximum rate that banks may charge for an overdraft on a current account – up to a permitted amount – will be reduced to 12,50 percent for amounts up to 1.250 euros and to 11,50 percent for higher amounts.
For a credit facility linked to a card, the maximum rate will drop to 16,50 percent for amounts up to 1.250 euros, to 14,50 percent for amounts between 1.250 and 5.000 euros, and to 13,50 percent for higher limits.
