Opening a bank account is easier than ever these days, thanks in large part to the rise of so-called neobanks. These fully digital couches, like bunq, Revolut, N26 and Monese, offer various benefits through their apps. ABN AMRO now joins this group with their new brand, BUUT.
In the press release, ABN AMRO has not yet provided much information about BUUT, Tikkie's new bank. BUUT was built from scratch within a year as a fully-fledged bank, specifically aimed at young people. The slogan is "the bank that does it differently with a Tikkie", a clear nod to the popular payment app. ABN AMRO promises that BUUT will offer functions that meet the needs of young people and will support them in managing their money.
The exact details of BUUT, such as the minimum age and specific functions, are not yet known. What we do know is that it was developed by the Tikkie team and that it is “easy to use, interactive, fully visual and 100% tailored to the world of a new generation”. We also know that it functions fully digitally and that an app will be launched for it. BUUT expects to launch after the summer, but interested parties can already sign up for a waiting list.
We don't know yet if BUUT will support Apple Pay. However, the image and logo clearly show a physical debit card, something that young people hardly use these days. For Apple Pay, you usually have to be 16 years or older in the Netherlands, so it is possible that the card is mainly intended for younger users.
This is not the first time that ABN AMRO has introduced a digital alternative. Some time ago there was already Moneyou Go, a banking app from ABN AMRO subsidiary Moneyou, and the Grip app, which was not a bank, but an app that categorizes your payments.
